Dear potential participants, dear friends,

Let us inform you about the conference that you might be interested in and we apologize if you receive the same information from multiple sources. We are looking forward to meeting you next year, in 2014, at SEERAS (Second East European Radon Symposium) satellite meeting of RAD 2014 Conference which will be held from May 28-31, in the city of Niš, Serbia.

Considering the productive collaboration in the field of radioecology over the last twenty years, especially in the field of population exposure to indoor radon and thoron, as a great majority of you know, we have been making a series of field campaigns and thorough research in several areas of interest in Serbia, including Kosovo and the Republic of Srpska which is a completely new entity situated on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The collaboration with you and your colleagues greatly helped us in this work. The joint scientific work resulted in the identification of at least three high level radon areas in Serbia (Kalna, Gornja Stubla and Niska Banja), the significant indoor thoron levels in the residences (Gornja Stubla, Sokobanja villages), the negative dependency between the number of smokers in the dwellings of Niska Banja and the average radon concentrations, are just some of the valuable results and general conclusion we achieved.

The four ECE Workshops, organized from 2003 to 2011 and held in Serbia (Belgrade, Niska Banja, Sokobanja and Kragujevac), brought together researchers to exchange information and results through their presentations and discussions of papers dealing with all topics which covered all aspects of natural radiation exposure including radon and thoron, and any other issues related to low dose radiation and epidemiological studies and education.

The main goal of this series (East European Radon Symposium) was to organize a Symposium every 2nd year, not only to promote continued development but also to review and discuss recent achievements in the study of radon and thoron in different environmental compartments, particularly from the Eastern European countries. When exchanging information through the presentation and discussion of papers dealing with all topics listed below, we hope that these subjects can improve radiological protection of humans and the environment. Case study papers are encouraged as well as papers of a more theoretical nature, dealing with advanced mathematical and computational methods. The symposium will include invited, oral and poster sessions, technical exhibition, and papers publishing in prestige scientific journals.

An optional intercomparison exercise for outdoor active detector measurements will be organized for those interested, at proper field sites.

Best regards,
Zora S. Zunic , Goran S. Ristic
